Bush’s Chicken to open in Brownfield

Brownfield residents will have another dining option in a few months with the announcement this week that Bush’s Chicken will open a franchise location here.

Keith Bush, founder of the Waco-based company, told the Brownfield News Thursday that the new restaurant will be open for business in October. A feasibility study will be completed in under 60 days and constructions takes 90 days. A brand new 3,000 square foot building will be constructed that will be similar to locations opened in recent years in Lamesa and Seminole.

Bush was in Brownfield this week and selected the site for his new restaurant. Bush said his company “loves West Texas and communities the size of Brownfield.”
He told the News he was waiting on a contract to purchase the land between the Stripes convenience store and the Turtle Hole car wash on the Tahoka Highway, across the street from Wal-Mart.
“We looked at several locations around town, but that one was the favorite as soon as we saw it,” he said. “It will suit our needs perfectly and we look forward to being a part of the community.”

Bush’s Chicken will hire 20 full time and 30-part time employees, all of which will be local applicants.
A manager will be brought in temporarily to open the new location and train the staff until a local resident transitions into that leadership role.
“We absolutely love to hire high school students and we feel like we take care of them too,” Bush said. “If they stay with us for one year, they earn a vacation. I don’t think many other restaurants do that. We also give scholarships and when they graduate, if they agree to work during the day and attend college at night, we’ll pay their tuition.”

Bush said the community can expect his company to be a good partner as well, with strong participation in youth sports and church activities.
He also said Brownfield has been receptive during his inquiries and his recent visit and he looks forward to becoming a part of the community.
Bush’s Chicken was founded in 1995 by Bush and his wife, Charlene.
The company currently operates 68 franchise locations around Texas, but its strong growth plans will increase that number to 85 restaurants by the end of the year, including Brownfield.
